Notes from Ms. Rau

• Hat Day -Webber Elementary School invites you to help the victims of Hurricane Dorian! On Thursday, September 19^th, we will be raising money for ShelterBox to help them support those that were affected by the recent hurricane. Students and staff that donate $1 or more can wear a hat to school on this day. The Rotary Club of Lake Orion will match every dollar that Webber raises. Thank you for your support!
• Take Home Book Bags - You may notice your students reading level has remained the same as their end of the year kindergarten level or it may have dropped due to summer slide. Please spend 20 minutes reading these books each night. Some of this time can include you reading to them as well, modeling fluency and expression. When your child has read the 8 enclosed books several times please send the envelope back in their backpack so they can get new books. These books are at their independent level and are not meat to be frustrational. Thank you! 
• Change of Clothes - Please send in a labeled gallon size ziplock bag with a change of clothes for your student to keep in their locker.

Notes from Ms. Rau

• Please return all books - Please make sure all KIND take home book bags and take home books are returned this week. If you misplace a book please send in $5 to donate to a new level reader. I will have students cross their names off a class list as the books/bags get returned. Thank you so much. 
• Board Game Day - We will be playing board games on the morning of 6/11. Please send in a board game from home that your student already knows how to play. No technology please. 
• End of Year Student Celebration The Webber staff has decided to plan our end of the year celebrations for students and staff only.  This will help us focus on the kids and keep a safe environment for everyone! We will be making ice cream sundaes and watching Charlotte's Web (we are currently reading the book) on Thursday, June 13th in the afternoon to celebrate our time together in first grade. Parents can help by donating items for our celebration on the sign up genius here. Thank you!

News for the week of 5/28

Notes from Ms. Rau

• Show and Tell - In order to practice our speaking and listening skills, we will host interactive show and tell starting on Wednesday, May 22nd. Students may bring something to tell the class about on their designated day. Participation in show and tell is optional. It is a good idea to have students practice saying two or three sentences about the topic the night before; they can even write a few notes if they are worried about remembering what to say. The class will also have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions.
  
  
       Students may not bring toys, stuffed animals, electronics, live animals, or anything valuable or fragile for show and tell. Some examples of great show and tell items include rocks, shells, feathers, awards, art projects, photos, trophies, medals, books, maps, menus, or models. While most students prefer to have an item to show, they can also simply tell us about something without a prop. If your child wants to tell about a pet, person, or special event, a photo or drawing of the item can be helpful.
