News For This Week

Announcements:
·  Our Halloween Celebration will be on Tuesday, October 31st in our classroom from 2:00-3:00 following the school wide Halloween Parade which beings at 1:45. You are invited to join in on our celebration!

What your student will be learning:
Reader’s will…
·        Use persistence power and become great problem solvers
·        Try out all of their strategies
·        Have their partners help them solve a tricky word
·        Make plans with their partners to re-read for a purpose

Writer’s will…
·        Be immersed in how-to books and begin to notice features of how-to writing
·        Think of a topic they are an expert on and can teach others about
·        Write step by step directions
·        Use a partner to act out their directions and go back and add more
·        Use specific action words in their writing

Mathematicians will…
·        Relate addition and subtraction problems
·        Learn to add and subtract equations written vertically
·        Practice equations mixed vertically and horizontally
·        Find and create math equations in the real world

In social studies this week students will learn about different types of families. We will talk about similarities and differences between families. We will create a family portrait and begin to talk about a family tree.
