Celebrating Curiosity
Webber’s
annual Discovery Fair is scheduled for Friday, March 16 from 6:00 – 8:00
p.m. This family event is a celebration of science, technology, and the
arts. This year’s Fair will include a student art show, live animal exhibit,
fifth grade jet toy demonstrations, LOHS and Waldon Robotics teams, a Home
Depot kids’ workshop, a visual art immersion program, individual student projects
of discovery, engineering challenges, and more. What will YOU discover?
March is Reading Month Information
- Week of March 5-9
- Wacky Wednesday: March 7 Mismatched Day. To participate students should bring in a small donation from loose change to a few dollars. All funds collected will be donated to the Oakland County Animal Shelter in Pontiac. It is going to be a ‘Dog vs. Cat’ collection. Student council members will be coming around in the morning to collect the money from each class. Your students will choose if they like dogs or cats best, by placing their donation into the correct bin. The totals collected for ‘Dog vs. Cat’ will be announced on the News Show each Friday.
- Oakland County Animal Shelter will be visiting Webber on Friday, March 9. The students will have the opportunity to meet a furry friend and hear about how to be a responsible pet owner, pet care and correct way to approach a stray animal. Dogs will be leashed at all times. Please let me know of any pet allergies.
- 3/9 - Furry Friday Reading (bring in a stuffed animal to snuggle up with as we read), first at home reading BINGO page due!
Learning This Week
- In reading students will...
- read a nonfiction book aloud like an expert to a kindergarten student
- be the boss of their own reading saying "I can do this!"
- use everything they know to solve a word
- In math students will...
- take the unit 5 math test (you can look for this coming home on Friday)
- explore representing data
- organize categorical data
- use stair stepper tools to represent data
- In writing students will...
- make anthologies and celebrate all they've learned so far in review writing
- write a book review *please bring in 1 favorite book from home!*
- give sneak peek summaries in book reviews
- make book reviews just right - not too long, not too short
- In social studies students we will begin to learn about American Leaders. We will learn about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln this week. We will also study what makes a great leader.
- In science we will continue to learn about how we hear sound and why we feel vibrations.
In this science experiment, students hit a hanger onto a wall and felt vibrations. They also heard a high pitched dinging sound when they pressed the string up to their ears.
